This past week was definitely a bit of a drag for me but that’s the beauty of life, right? Challenges. Times like these often force me to find the good and I did!

Valentino Ready-To-Wear Fall/ Winter 2019/ 2020

Fashion

Valentino strikes again with yet another breath taking collection and this time, my inner amateur aesthete was swooning. From the comfort of my bed, popcorn made, tea cup cooling off slightly from my night stand while the thunder hummed outside, promising Johannesburg some much needed rainfall, I watched this beautiful fashion show on YouTube (in my imagination, I was actually front row so…) to bring you this blog post about my first impression of this collection.

Trend Obsession: Model Eyebrows

Fashion

The evolution of eyebrows has been wild over the last few decades, in all honesty. I went from watching my mom pluck all her brows off only to draw them back on as tadpoles when I was a child, to having my daughter watch me tweeze mine and fuss over an eyebrow powder pellet which had its wax almost running out, add to that, being low on my MAC concealer and having to find a way to make it give me proper coverage (on my lazy days) to give me a freshly tweezed look as I try and find the day’s perfect eyebrow shape because mine don’t even try to be identical (some days are for bad bitch high arches and other days… well, I try).

Dear Smile-keepers,

We’ve gone through yet another month of this new year and we’re actually making progress! I hope you’ve found it in you to get started on at least one of your year’s goals. Personally, I’m moving steady but most of my goals are covered so far. If you’re still struggling to set or even get started on your goals, here is a blog post I’d shared earlier this year about manifesting your goals. I hope it gets you through this month with a much better and easier approach to your future.

The Amateur Aesthete

Art

Welcome to the newest segment of my blog!

When Lydia Smiles is all about the things that make me happy, the things that I love—the things that make me Lydia— which I want to share with you! I’ve been getting the hang of blogging over the last few months and while I love writing about my spiritual journey, positivity and the Law of Attraction, those aren’t the only things that make me smile. Art forms a big part of who I am as a creative. I’m pedantic about my Instagram layout (which is pretty much themed and features a few collages which I spent a good portion of my day putting together for uploading), I love a good aesthetic on pretty much anything, I’m a sucker for detail and a good story and I love me some artwork (especially Renaissance artworks) and that what this is about.

Blog Goals: February 2019

goals

When I started my blog, all I knew was that I wanted to write something with the hopes that one person would read it and that it would make that one person’s day. My blog was not only primarily inspired by the fact that a lot of people often meet me and ask, “why do you smile so much?” but also by the sad fact that there’s just so much bad in the world and I wanted to have a little positivity corner for anyone seeking a bit of sunshine in their day too

This week has been one for the books and it’s absolutely confirmed that this is going to be a good year for me as most of the things that I’d set intentions for and spent most of my time manifesting last year are beginning to take off for me.

Dear Smile-keepers,

IT’S THE MONTH OF LOVE!

For a lot of people, February is just a drag because it means that the shops are stocking up on Valentine’s day things to sell to you and you’re reminded quite bluntly that you’re the single friend while everyone has plans for February 14th and all you have, for yet another year, is your TV and a box of tissues (you could even blame my fellow Scorpios for this because apparently we created this lovely day to scam everyone into conceiving more Scorpios. I love this idea better). I really want to say that I feel your pain and that we can all virtually hold hands around an imaginary fire and sing some anti-love songs but, firstly, I’m here with a lot of self-love posts lined up for you and secondly, I’m manifesting a Valentine’s day date so I can’t cry with you this year. Sorry.
